HD Satellite TV

HD Satellite TV (High-Definition Satellite TV) is a broadcast format that provides higher picture resolution than analog broadcasts.

How much higher picture resolution?

TV picture quality is measured in scan lines, and the more scan lines a picture has, the clearer the picture. Analog TV has 525 scan lines per image while HDTV has up to 1,080 lines per image, so High-Definition Satellite TV provides almost twice the clarity of analog TV.

Advantages of High-Definition Satellite TV:

  • Clearer picture without ghosting or snow associated with analog TV broadcasts.

  • Sharper images with more realistic colors than analog TV.

  • HD programming is in 16:9 widescreen format which is similar to that of a theater movie screen.

  • HDTV delivers Dolby Digital surround sound for a three-dimensional listening experience.

If you live in the United States and have a clear view of the southern sky, you can probably receive wireless satellite HDTV programs via DIRECTV, the nation's leading Satellite TV provider. To view HDTV via DIRECTV, you must have the following equipment:
